Profile
With a remarkable breadth of experience in the country's economic and financial affairs, Gil's record includes his position as Chief of Economic Projections in the President's Secretariat, economist at the Bank of Mexico (Central Bank), General Manager for Economic and Financial Studies of the Finance and Public Credit Secretariat, manager of the Bank of Mexico Data Analysis and Organization Unit, and Revenue Policy General Director of the Finance Secretariat.
For the past twenty years he has worked for the Bank of Mexico as Assistant Director and later as Director of Economic Research. He has also held the position of Under-Secretary for Revenue of the Finance and Public Credit Secretariat. Before his appointment as Secretary he was General Manager of Avantel.
In the academic area, he has been a Professor and Coordinator of the ITAM (Mexican Autonomous Institute of Technology) Economics Program.
Gil studied economics at ITAM and later pursued a Ph.D. in Economics at the University of Chicago.
He was born in Mexico City on September 2, 1943.
